For the first blog post I’d like to talk about how important it is to follow directions and provided tutorials. For some reason I thought I would just be a pro at this. I mean it’s wordpress right? Drag and drop, easy peasy. No, it was not that way for me initially. Much like everything else, it has a small learning curve that I just refused to acknowledge. My mid-30s is showing. The last websites I made were on expage. Remember that? 2002 baby, (that was 22 years ago). Here’s a link to look at my super religious 8th grade version of spreading the good news online. You can look at that trainwreck here and here. Thanks to the wayback machine, those pieces of art will be forever enshrined in the cloud.
For probably thirty minutes I was trying to figure out how to delete the template blog posts. You know, the ones they use to show you how it’s going to look. After using the very quick resources that they provide, I was able to figure it out within a microwave minute. So much frustration could have been avoided. Next was figuring out how to link the actual blog post to the homepage with a pic. Everything has a learning curve. How in the world did I do all that when I was 14, pre-youtube?
When it comes to taking the time to read the manual, I know better because I still hear Ms. Jones (my 7th grade math teacher) telling us to “Read ALL of the instructions before you start.” FML.
I’m sure there’s lots more to learn and some more frustrations bound to surface as I continue down this blog journey, as for now, let’s call it a night.
