I have finally finished my education. My dad passed away in October of 2005 and I graduated High School in May of 2006. When I attempted to go to school the next fall in 2006, let’s just say it didn’t last very long. We didn’t have any savings or life insurance payments. I had to move out on my own and try to go to school on my own. I got a pell grant but unfortunately the commute to and from school was too much and ultimately I was unable to continue. Fast forward to 2014 and I started going back to school for my AAS in Electrical Technology. I was able to go through a tech school for a bargain of only 10k after all was said and done. I thought that was pretty good! Once I finally satisfied some outstanding bills with the school I was able to graduate in 2019.
I was able to get a job with a cable company in Missouri and worked there for 3 years until I decided to move to be with my partners in Vermont. In 2020 I started at an internet company and worked there for about 4 years. I decided to take advantage of the education fund and I worked my butt off to obtain my Bachelors completely debt free. As long as the grade was a B or better, the company reimbursed 100% of my education.
After almost 20 years, I was able to finally obtain my degree, and without student loan debt. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and I hope this story inspires others to take advantage of any educational opportunities that their employer offers. If you are an employer, I hope you are inspired to start offering education programs.
Take care.
